A reasonable answer to my semi-rhetorical question...

The thread is busy arguing the importance of the costs of acquisition. I think this is fundamentally irrelevant to the overall value that such acquisition brings to the company.

An expensive acquisition may lower the numbers but that same acquisition may bring increased revenue or earnings growth. I am more than willing to ignore individual quarterly statements over the long term consistancy of a company and its likelihood for future growth.
