I'm certainly not blaming God. I am only blaming human beings. (Thinking) humans have always defined God in certain terms. If God exists then he would not be the ridiculous creature(s) that many religions follow.

Probably, I don't remember you in the choir!

It may appear that my references are somewhat anachronistic--and they are.

The founding of the United States and the democratic rule of law within a Constitution espousing individual rights, did indeed prevent the church from committing the kinds of horrors that were known in the Age of Reason. However, most of the world is still engaged in power struggles where religion justifies the end...and the means. My references are offered to embellish a point, so that we appreciate that what people believe in, determines the moral boundaries of their behaviour...
