I recently met a woman from croatia. Her Church was her authority and law. Her belief and her faith gave it power. Unfortunately, she was being beaten up by her husband. It took many years of unhappiness and risk before her Church would allow a rational response to this abuse. God's representatives (ahem) have the power to help people or to hurt them, depending on the dogma of their religion, their interpretation of said dogma, and their personal idiosyncracies
