The lines have to be inspected as there can't be any bleed through from other lines - line could be OK for voice but fail on DSL - also there are three set up procedures, one on the phone line, the modem install, and the ISP setup.

I got DSL through US West and it was a nightmare!!!! Apparently the Intel internal card they are shipping is a bunch of garbage - and they claimed it was better than the previous product (Cisco I believe but am not sure). It possibly conflicted with my video card, but whatever, they could not make it work. After much pain and suffering they finally sent me an external modem for free.

If the WSTL product works - they have a winner :).

You need a technician to come to your apartment building and go to the telephone closet to install some equipment so your line is in sync with the main office. When I had Bell Atlantic DSL, that technician came like at around 1 or 2 pm and didn't leave until 9 pm. Not sure if he knew what he was doing, but he spend hours at my building telephone basement.

The self installation kit that Bell Atlantic sends you only covers software and basic hardware installation.
