I think it was the year the King (allegedly) passed on that You Light Up My Life was number one for like half a year or something. Some radio stations played it once an hour for months. It got to the point where people must have been considering deafness as a lifestyle choice.

I remember one Chicago DJ who used to start the record (this was several years before CD's were invented) and then turn off the turntable and let the song scratch to a fingers-across-the-chalkboard style stop. Then he would just sit there and berate Debby Boone for awhile.

Ahhh, what passed for entertainment before the Internet. I think Three's Company was the top rated TV show then. And Gloop was an impressionable 14-year-old.

It's all starting to fit now .....
