Sorry I mis-understood you. But to keep it in proper perspective The "buying power" in Japan is still rather low "relatively speaking" mainly because " Discounts" or "Competitive Pricing" still hasn't become the norm as it is in the U.S. and many other places. Most consumer products in Japan still have the same pricing no matter where you buy it, also the mail-order and internet discounts so common in the U.S. is still not possible mainly due to the poor infrastructure for the Japanese use of credit cards. Cash is still king in Japan.
