QS - you're missing the dynamics here. HP is the key partner for Intel on McKinley. Intel will need all the help they can get to make IA64 "real" and also sees the Linux movement as a way to expand. If HP is wearing a "rubber nose" they did it a long time before Carly came on board - when they did the original development deal with Intel. This has everything to do with Intel and only a little to do with HP.
