You have no way of knowing what would have happened if Goldwater had won. Would he have used the nukes? There were advisors who wanted to. Then what would Russia have done? I could just as easily guess that Moyers saved the us from WW3. Just what do you think that Golwater have done differently? Johnson tried bombing the crap out of everything to no avail.
