Post says market sells on Winspear’s good news
Winspear Diamonds Inc WSP
Shares issued 51,634,088 Aug 10 close $4.23
Fri 11 Aug 2000 In the News
The National Post reports in its Friday edition that embattled Winspear Diamonds says the diamond-bearing mineral resource at its Snap Lake project in the Northwest Territories has been more than doubled by exploration since last September’s estimate. The Post’s John Schreiner writes that the announcement, aimed at staving off a hostile bid from De Beers Centenary AG, was not well-received by investors. Winspear shares fell 52 cents to $4.23, just below the De Beers offer, on heavy volume of two million shares. Canaccord Securities analyst Andrew Muir commented that the good news fell on deaf ears and that all the market wants to hear is a competing bid. Winspear chairman Hugh Morris says several parties have signed confidentiality agreements to look at Winspear’s data, but he declined to name the parties. Investment sources say a bid must surface by Friday, Aug. 11, to stop shareholders tendering to De Beers’s bid. Industry speculation suggests Dia Met Minerals and Australia-based Ashton Mining may be interested.

Wayne,I to have not tendered. As far as another bid,my question on the confrence call was answered, when RT told me that other parties are intrested. We will have to wait and see what developes.Debeers are using scare tactics that the share price will not hold if the bid is pulled. This is the oldest trick in the book in a hostile take over.We should not care if the bid is pulled,in the long run we will be much better off if we can let the management bring our deposit to a mine, clearly the economics are there, otherwise DBRs would have never made the bid in the first place. This new tactic employed by debeers stating future delusion dbrs talks about will have no impact in the long run,as wsp will have the cash flow to do a stock buy back. Our wsps shares are worth at least C$20.If the stocknprice weakens as a result of no bid,I will be more than happy as i can take advantage of people who do not understand the value of their shares and will buy more as i have been doing over the past few weeks. have a good day James

Wayne - We'll be okay. If your scenario does develop then we can all load up again and literally laugh our way to the bank.

"<Why have we not had another bid? >"

Because the time is not right, and because the major players of the world do not allow one aggressive opportunist to set the schedule for everybody. We are not in this for to-day's or to-morrow's spike but rather to achieve the true value of the discovery.

Wayne you know in your heart that this is the case. Take out the dreams of two years ago and dust them off. Then it was just a hope and a prayer. Now RT has converted it to reality. I won't set a target price for the same reason the WKs will not put together bids, because it's premature, and as we all know that can lead to weakness. When the time is right we will see a fight for the ownership of this property providing that we have the strength and tenacity to hang on to what we have.

I, like Clark Gable in gone with the wind "Frankly don't give a damn" what the price does in it's daily fluctuations.I made this speculation because I thought it was going to be a mine and now as far as I'm concerned it is a mine, and nobody is going to SUCKER me into giving it away. This investment now that it has achieved status has the capability to return a significant proportion of $4.25 every year for more than twenty years IMO.

Congratulations on clearing the first hurdle now you only have to jump the rest and make it round the track and you'll have a fortune.

Cheers Buddy
Trev

PS read the latest DeB letter. If it's o risky and unknown why are they so determined to have it?? The answer is because they with their skills and expertise have jumped to the conclusion that it is a massive winner, and they have the nerve to insult us all by assuming that we are stupid, as you would have to be to acceot their bid.
