Either they mean the acceleration of system upgrades for Y2K and the slow ramp after that until demand rebuilds, or they misspoke and meant W2K.

gv...."y2k"

you of little faith........

if "mikey" claims "y2k"....why not accept him on faith?

seriously....to me the problem is their inability to go beyond the perception of just an assembler/box maker...all the "new markets/products" they boasted about "winning" over a year ago, have proven more difficult then they expected....europe, even after management responsibility change not anything to brag about....prc still not rushing out by the billions to buy pc's.......

did you notice dell multi page adverts in financial papers this week...seems emphasis is on e-commerce....

believe they suffer from an "identity crisis"......too much ego......just re read "mikey's" book.....why blame yourself, when you can blame a calendar!

good luck...ed a.

fleck always talks re y2k as nuclear winter. he says companies bought a lot before y2k to get ready for y2k and so won't buy in 2000 because bought in advance

Re: Y2K

Apparently, Y2K did have an impact on their Q1 which ends in Jan. I believe that they did take a slowdown in February with a slow startup of sales of Win2k and the RDRAM systems.

It actually looks to me like the the real culprit here for this quarters results is European sales. They have been having trouble in Europe for more than a year. They referred to ongoing restructuring in Europe and to the Europe not pulling out of the post Y2k slump.
