dwdkc, RE: Do you or anyone else know what accounted for the difference between the 1.2 bil cash number and 600 mil net inc. These are important numbers. The huge cash number also speaks to the large and (with that cash power) growing investment gains.

DELL increased its current liabilities by a little more than $400mm. 'Other' on the balance sheet of liabilities increased by more than $100mm. Goodwill, a non-cash asset, shrunk $200mm. That generated $700mm of cash right there. Offset that by a increase in receivables of a little more than $200mm, and you have cash generated of $500mm, pretty close to the number that you are looking for.
