Jim, while I could respond to your associate's comments, I think we'd be arguing over points which will undoubtedly become moot in the next few months, simply because roadmaps change.

As for DDR on the desktop, I'm not very worried about that right now. In my opinion, it will start trickling in late 2000 with "paper launches," though the implementation of DDR will be far from mature. DDR will then make definite headway into servers in 2001, but not necessarily in desktops because of platform concerns. Intel will continue to hedge its bets between RDRAM and DDR well into 2001 until more questions are answered. (This is in stark contrast to Via, who seems hell-bent on charging in with DDR hoping to take advantage of Intel's hesitations. I don't know if Via can do it, but it will be interesting to see them try.)
