Bob, re: "I would think that FD would cause companies to rethink their selective enforcement of their quiet periods. Why was analyst A shut off 2 weeks before the quarter ended and holding course, while analyst B is revising his estimate 5 days after the quarter ended?"

I would think that companies will have to review their entire relationship with the street. I suspect that a lot of companies had love/hate feelings about the analysts, and may be very happy with this decision.

I do believe that the sell side analysts from smaller firms, that don't have the financial clout of an ML or GS, could get a strong retail following, based on real performance. That would be my hope anyway. I think (hope) it will be a lot harder for the analysts to estimate earnings within a few pennies, the ones that do should be rewarded.

A few simple rules, if they work out, could have a significant impact on the markets.
