It is essential that a programmers guide be released well in advance of silicon. This allows software developers time to develop software. For example, the Merced programmer's guide was released years ago.

I'll agree with that, and the only silicon anybody is seeing over 866MHZ in retail stores is AMD. The only silicon being marketed to the business market is limited to 866MHZ.

1GHZ Thunderbird, runs fine at standard temperature, readily available, $470 this month. Now that's silicon!
