John,

RE:"The NYSE close was 57, right at the 200-day."

I've got AMDs 200 Day Simple moving average at 56.4398...and the NYSE close at 57 3/8 so it appears we closed above it.
The stock moved above it about 2:40PM and after a retest at appx 2:50PM, moved above it for the rest of the day.

Jim

No you certainly didn't watch it. It was decisively below the 200 all day until 3 PM

Well here are the times it hit the price target:

12:10
12:15
12:35
13:25
13:35
14:35
and finally closed above it at 14:45

hmmm.....

What would AMD's stock price/volume have to do to convince you it no longer had to fill "the gap?"

You will have to ask someone much smarter than me. But I would say if the stock were able to close above the resistance I mentioned earlier and hold the gap will probably not get filled. Volume would not enter into that particular scenario since price would show ME. I worry about volume coming off of lows and highs more than intermediate prices. Now that is a book in itself.
