To: Gary E who wrote (6256 ) 8/11/2000 10:59:45 PM From: Patrick Slevin Respond to of 7434 I tried to find a map so you and Fred might get an idea why helo is perhaps the best way out for a critical care patient in some areas around there. But unless you have a street name and a city MapQuest is less than anxious to help. Perhaps if they could allow one to use something like so many degrees North by so many degrees West it would work. Other that that the area is too underpopulated. So the best I could do is this map, keewaydin.org and if you go to the map in the middle of the page and click on it it should expand and give you some idea of how remote it is. Where it says "Keywaydin Camps" there is an arrow pointing to an island on the right....that is where we were. Anyway, you can see there are no towns around at all. No electric, no phones. They had to get the rescue boat and chopper by radio. Radio runs off a generator. Interestingly, to me anyway, I found a picture of my son from last year's trip while looking for this map. I doubt Fred will recognize him, he is third on the left, standing ottertooth.com and this was his trip this year ottertooth.com These kids go so far up they had snow and the only people they see are the occasional Eskimos. After this weekend the only place I want to go is somewhere where I see the occasional guy walk out on a beach with tropical drinks. On the Mom front, I do not know how she is. I intend to try to get over there tomorrow if I am able to do so. Without alarming her, that is. Thanks. EDIT Okay, it seems MapQuest is a bit better if you don't access it using the Netscape-provided bookmark.mapquest.com If you look at Sudbury in the center left, that is where the hospital is. Then the island is up where it says Prov. Park, just under Lady Evelyn. No actually just below that, above "Bear Island" which is partially blocked out by a circle.
