A simpler explanation would be that the players in the London gold market are disgusted by the B of E's tactics and are simply boycotting the auction - or at least submitting minimum bids. Notice how the price rises before the auction, falls after, and picks up again. You'd think the price would tank after the auctions - given the bids - but it doesn't.

i'm still trying to figure out who was the guy that "sucker punched" uncle bill per his letter to 60 minutes of a few weeks ago....??

meanwhile back at the ranch:

the weekly gold closing price for friday shows the lst bounce in several weeks so this must be a rally....:)
