Dan,

Pentium 4-originally expected to debut in the third quarter-is being delayed until adequate supplies of the Tehama chipset and Direct Rambus DRAM are available.

Sounds like a bunch of baloney. If the chipset was ready to be manufactured, there is no reason why Intel could not manufacture adequate quantities for a low volume PIV launch. The same is true for the DRDRAM supply.

Apparently Intel is having some problems with their boy Willy.

"Meanwhile, the P4 plot thickens:

Pentium 4 held up by lack of chipset, memory support"

Daniel, that would be good news for AMD! 99% of the press will celebrate the Pentium 4 as the 8th world wonder. Not to mention analysts like Mr. Kumar... This will have a huge psychological impact. Now matter how good the P4 will be in reality and in which quantities it can be delivered, AMD will once again be regarded as the poor little underdog with only second rate products. Therefore, every month in which the introduction of the P4 is delayed is a huge opportunity for AMD to gain ground, especially during the Christmas buying season.

Pentium 4 held up by lack of chipset, memory support techweb.com

This is the same story as in the "From:" posting, I'm just reposting for the sake of the link, which turned up in a search for something else. The story is credited to Rambus beat guy Jack Robertson.

Cheers, Dan.
