Lynn,

You highlighted a good example of how research changes depending on who approves it for public consumption.

"Despite this temporary set back, we maintain our positive view in the Dell story and the enormity of the opportunity set still in front of the company..."

With this from the full DELL report:

"Despite this temporary set back, we have not lost
faith in the Dell story or the opportunity we think
lies in front of the company..."

Notice the elimination of the word "enormity" and the addition of the words "we think".

BTW, Crawford has been working with Milunovich at ML much longer than Roy. Roy does appear to be the junior analyst specializing in storage. He is probably the third person in that role in three years. Depending on the specific situation, the lead analyst might do nearly all the report writing or very little of it.

I have to agree with you on Fortuna's research. I am not quite sure how it makes it out the door. I don't think ML would have a problem replacing him if they could get a top-ranked analyst with good banking relationships. Remember that Milunovich used to cover Dell and Compaq and before him, Lucy Painter. Fortuna didn't always love Dell so much. A year ago he downgraded it to Neutral.

Yes, I know Jean is Canadian. I was just giving him a chance to stretch out and bon ton rolutte with his feminine side, eh? Anyway, as a Canadian, Jean just appreciates being considered one of the guys no matter the circumstance. ;) --- I don't follow analysts. I just know that if a high P/E tech stock stops breaking out it's inorganic income, it's time to start heading for the exits. -JCJ
