<I respectfully disagree with Maurice on the per minute pricing. Yes, while it's important to get the per minute pricing "in line" it is not the key factor. Equipment costs are. If people balk at the equipment costs a .50 / minute rate is meaningless.

I have spoken with several potential buyers of a G* phone (including my wife) and every time the issue is the high price on handsets. And the mobile car kits? Let's no even go there.

Heck Charlie, you aren't supposed to disagree with venerable or venerated posters. [Just kidding].

I agree that the barrier to entry of a high-priced handset is substantial, especially when there is a risk that the subscriber will be stuck with a high-priced satphone paperweight.

I've said before and agree with you that equipment costs are too high for many potential subscribers, so at least one price plan should include "no money down - pay a monthly fee for 2 years" which would cover the cost of the handset and shift the risk to Globalstar from the subscriber. Since Bernie and the Service Providers assure us that the service will continue, they might as well adopt the risk since the subscribers are nervous. If Bernie and co are correct, there is no risk so it's a good risk to adopt to give comfort to the customer.

If the handset was 'free', but they had to pay $100 a month for two years, plus minute charges of about $1 a minute, would your potential buyers sign up?
