<A flower doesn't WANT to live, does it? It doesn't WANT anything, does it? >

I think you have already answered that question.

<I believe that all things are a matter of self interest>

All things have and are driven by self interest. All things are seeking efficiency and that is genetic.

<Why have humans evolved to help those that have no apparent value in an evolutionary context >

It maybe premature to assign the label evolution to such a recent event. If we are still doing this in a thousand years then perhaps.

<Is the most successful end of all growth or progress already predetermined, and by what laws or by whom? <

Yes, physics.

That brings up a question I have. If all things are a reaction to stimuli, a chemical reaction to a stimulus, and that reaction is predetermined by physics. Then would you not have to say all things are predetermined?

Solon you pose some excellent questions some of which have intrigued me for years.

<<. Is it a force, or is it an agent?>>

Himmmm....One might describe evolution as a force while Natural selection the agent…But of course that's just one opinion....

<<If it works for the benefit of some, does it not work for the detriment of others?>>

Clearly this is true. But no one said it must benefit all……..99% of all species that have lived are now extinct

<<Is the most successful end of all growth or progress already predetermined, and by what laws or by whom?>>

I have wrestled with versions of this one myself for years and must admit to date I haven't a clue. And of course this is the most important of all questions

<<Why do millions of species (without thoughts, concepts or values)...continue to seek goals that only make rational sense to rational and thinking beings?>>

The simple answer although often hard to grasp in it's simplicity is those that didn't seek these goals are no longer around. What took me so long to grasp this was my inability to understand what a million years was and what could be accomplished via filtering ala survival of the fittest given enough time. Most all of these goals lead to survival.

What about beauty? Why the drive to perpetuate beauty? ....I dunno….

<<Are the traits that are successfully evolving in humans that assist the weak and the poor of all species, the way natural selection and survival of the fittest have always operated?…. Evolutionists must always try to prove that a benefit is being conferred>>

<<They will simply say that it confers an evolutionary benefit on the survival of the species that may or may not be known or understood within the limits of barriers imposed by our inabilities to prognosticate beyond the uncertainties of chance mutations that may or may not swing the evolutionary pole in its longterm direction, and hither and thither and you...>>

Whew…..Wot a sentence ; ^}… Evolutionists lose credibility when they try to explain this one IMO because it flies in the face of the heart of the matter. They are simply wrong.

I must tread lightly here so as not to be misunderstood .I believe that evolution in humans no longer applies......Survival of the fittest in humans is no longer applicable. Every one breeds.......Without Natural Selection there is no evolution as we know it.!

The use of wonder drugs prevents evolved immune systems from dominating the gene pool .

I believe that the challenge for humans in the future lies with genetic engineering .Without evolution and natural selection to guide the way it's time has come.
