TG, Thank you. Is signalling used for provisioning of services?

Telecomguy, This article from Business Week agrees with what you have been saying. Paul Johnson has always been a Cisco bull. Now, he
appears to be backing away.

"Is Cisco Falling Prey to Optical Illusions?
It may not be able to dominate optical networking the way it has routers and
switches, and that could take the sheen off its stock "

Call waiting is also not what I would an equipment which
"provisions service". It simply allows the 64K copper wire to handle both voice & data simultaneously.....so in essence it's more of an add-on
enhancement to the current dial-up modem.

Provisioning as I understand the term is all about quickly/efficiently activating/deactivating customer accounts & activating/deactivating
features/applications/services.

Ooooops! That's the mistake some vendors will make. When you provision call waiting you're provisioning a new billable service. Yes, activating an account is provisioning as well... but each time you add or remove features from an account it is service provisioning you're enabling/disabling.
