The expansion of the universe is slowing.
Well, the second law of thermodynamics indicates that the universe as a whole will reach a steady state (at a very cold temperature). Is this perfection? It is a case of great symmetry.

The ultimate end is will happen long after we are gone. With luck there may be great technological breakthroughs in the mean time. Perhaps a new big-bang can be fashioned in a laboratory (nobody knows why the first one blew).

All current indications are that the universe is flat, it will go on expanding forever. If our information is presevered for a sufficently long time perhaps entities from beyond the universe can re-activate it. Who knows? we only have a few thousand years of ingenuity as a record and a minimum of billions of years of future.
