>> Adobe Systems / Macromedia (ADBE 115 5/16 +2 1/2) (MACR 77 5/8 -5 9/16) : Shares of these two graphic/Web design software developers are taking divergent paths today after Adobe announced yesterday that it has filed an emergency court order seeking to block alleged patent infringement by Macromedia, including the upcoming (September) launch of Macromedia's Flash 5.0. <<

Adobe must be scared shitless of Flash!! "An emergency court order"!!! Trying to shield their sorry selves behind this dubious patent.... ooohhh look, our scary software patent will protect us against this big bad software Macromedia is frightening us with! We tried to compete, but when that didn't work, what are we supposed to do?

Trying to keep superior software off the streets by legal threats is bad enough, but when the suit itself is so laughable, it shows they're really scraping the bottom of the barrel.

I managed to pick up some MACR in the 77's, the stock price reaction to this moronic suit was senseless; anyone who sold because of this is an idiot (but thanks, idiots!).

Adobe should be ashamed of themselves; I find it hard to believe their top management went along with the people (probably from marketing) who came up with this lawsuit idea. I have very little respect for a company who tries to squash innovation by court order... this also sends a rather nasty message to Adobe's engineers from their own management: we don't think you can fend this Flash product off, so since you can't compete in the marketplace we're pursuing other venues.

This should be hilarious as Adobe tries to explain itself in the press...
