Carl, re: Patent claims.
I haven't read any of the Rambus patents or claims, nor do I intend to do so. Evaluation is best left to the experts. While many on the thread have expressed opinions, IMO they're just that. (I think that applies to some of the sites that also express opinions crafted as facts). <g>
Two of the claims discussed on the thread appear to be using both edges of a pulse for triggering events, and the delay of gating events tied to the dispersion of the valid data window.
IMO, neither is novel.
I think the former has been used for years.
And back in the 60's the ferrite core memory industry provided means for delay of valid data strobes to account for the spread in read signals throughout the memory array's. I'm sure there are many other examples.
Based on those assumptions, I conclude that the methodology for achieving these functions is what is novel and patented. Many of the problems addressed by Rambus technology have been around for years. They may have better solutions to the problems.
But, JMHO's
