Well, for Rambus' royalties (2% ?) you get ALL of the patents.

Most of the patents are owned by competitive firms that "cross license" them with each other, with no money changing hands.

Your last line is most interesting "Why build anything when you can leech off of other people's hard work?"

The Rambus patents were applied for in 1990 based on work done in 1989 and 1990. Rambus makes NOTHING. They had no significant sales until the Nintendo 64, and not much then. They labored for most of a decade developing advances in memory and data transmission technology, with no income and without being paid by the firms that were using the inventions covered in their patents to make products using the Rambus inventions and sell them for real money.

Now tell me exactly who is the real leech ?
