Dealer: Do I have tornado stories! Listen to this one. Back in 1984 or early 85 we had a bad one come near. Usually, we know when a tornado is coming because spotters see them and the TV puts reports out quickly. Back then they didn't have the new dopler radar that can pin-point them.

Anyway, we knew one was headed our way. I turned on the police scanner and could hear the reports coming in. I knew from its damage path that it was coming.

Since we are up high, I usually can outside and see the cloud formations coming before the rain hits and see if it will come close enough to be worried. Well, it was already raining pretty good and the wind blowing. I was out on the deck and could see the storm line coming. I figured this one was not changing course.

At that time our oldest son was less than a year old. We had two dogs and a cat that all thought they were human. The storm was so bad that I hurried everyone together and we went underneath the house to a portion that had reinforced concrete walls. I roped us all together! I didn't want one of us flying away.... really. That happens in these things. We had our son in a pouch strapped to the wife's chest, I ran a rope around us and around the dogs and tied us all together. The darn cat wouldn't let me tie him so I had to hold him. Anyway, we stayed underneath tied up like that until it passed. The tornado went over us, but did not touch down. We had roof damage and trees down. It went on down the road and touched down outside of a small town about 7 miles away and did considerable damage.
