Great discussion guys. It is a pleasure to read the informative posts from different perspectives. Keep it up.

The only thing I can add is that AMD's Communication Products Division (Now Legerity) has been working with Aware on a new Central office chipset for a year now. They are close to bringing it to market. Maybe all the talk about Alcatel getting out of the DSL chipset arena is not all that far fetched. As Pat mentioned, Alcatel may not be producing many chipsets themselves. There have been rumors that Alcatel is having trouble with manufacturing their DSL Chips. AMD could have been told by Alcatel that they need to pick up the slack so they go to Aware and get working on a multiport central office chipset solution. Does this sound reasonable? Any thoughts or comments would be greatly appreciated.
