I believe, but haven't checked, that CTXS in its buyback announcement probably said that it would repurchase up to a certain number of shares on the open market or via private parties depending on market conditions. The securities laws have relatively strict (or at least clear) limitations on how a company can buy back its stock so as not to roil the markets. Presumably there are some regulations or at least advisory opinions there about how to "safe-haven" a private party buyback. The CTXS language in question may actually refer to a relationship with a broker concerning taking the other side on largish block trades. In any event, stock buybacks, by reducing the float, are generally extremely welcome events to me. Fwiw.
