<<Or do you think Francisco Partners is basically a way-station on the way to CPD's becoming public?>>

Pat,
Your latter comment is what I am inclined to agree with. It all just goes to show that things rarely are what they seem to be. It sounds like CPD may become a very significant player.

I've been into Alcatel for a couple of years because of their DSL deployment juggernaut, and am just baffled by the contention that they will no longer be providing DSL chipsets. Of course, if what you have pointed to is accurate, then I never really knew what they were doing to begin with.

Clearly there are several camps forming, but I'm not really sure what the battle will be. Because Virata pulls together Ala & TI, with WSTL becoming their largest user, I suspected that there must be something special about VRTA. If you have any pieces of this jigsaw puzzle that fit together better let me know.

Thanks for your perspective,
Michael

P. S. I hope the ALA thread enjoys this new dimension of discussion about this rapidly growing networking company.
