Dear Jim: Yes, it was already posted, but since you reposted it I am pasting one paragraph from it with my comments. JDN . 20/20 FORESIGHT. Optical networking, after all, is Cisco's future, according to Chambers. In the late 1990s, he gave a speech predicting that networks built on light waves, rather than electrons, would one day power the entire Internet. His foresight proved to be 20/20, as that vision is quickly becoming reality in the form of optical networking. Now, for you non believers. Do you actually think that a Company so richly endowed with Management and Scientific expertise as well as financial support and enveloping the entire networking community like an Octopus could make a prediction like above, be correct, and NOT have a plan in effect to take advantage of it?? Dont be so naive!! Its my judgement that CSCO as it ALWAYS DOES waits for others to lead the way, sort out the technology that will survive (optical networking is quite complicated and there are several choices as to how to proceed) and then buy its way into the fray and leverage off its existing products and customers base to become a leading player in the field.
