Among the 100s of plans created by the CIA one involved projecting holographic images of Vietnamese gods on clouds. These "gods" would have told the Viet Cong that their cause was wrong and to join their South Vietnam brothers.

The idea of psychological warfare against the Cong, playing on their superstitions (and feeding those superstitions), was formulated after several incidents in the mid-60s where American river patrol gunboats were decorated as dragons by some enterprising Americans. The results were amazing. All the Cong who encountered these boats threw down their arms and fled in terror.

Plans were formulated to take advantage of this and launch waves of various psychological terror campaigns. LBJ nixed the idea.
