I Didn't see that implication. It could be argued that while many other forms of inflationary policy are possible, a war was the only one LBJ could slip past Congress. I won't argue it, since I don't agree with the premise in the first place, but I didn't see the implication that you did.

Greenspan didn't produce the new technology, and I'm not sure he really produced the stable economy either. Sailing straight isn't that hard to do on a smooth sea with a fair wind. I suspect that the stable economy - and Greenspan's reputation - are products of the same fundamental demographic and technological trends.
