Fully agree with the context of your post. Related to Innuits, Chukcis were at onetime free people and happy people, until the Soviets decided to give them the benefits of Socialist life!!!!! We passed through settlements and villages where we were probably the first white non-Russians that they had seen. On the suerface, all seemed to be peaceful, until we saw drunk Chukci's on the road sides. Yet they suffere from all that you mentioned in your post, and they are aware of what has been done to them. Last but not leat, the greatest damage was caused by the Belgium Settlements on River Yena. As the result of inter-marriage, which spread venerial desease, syphilis in particular, and among Chukcis.
