Hong Kong stocks seen opening up on Wall-Street Sunday August 13, 9:40 pm Eastern Time The Dow Jones industrial average (^DJI - news) ended up 119.04 points or 1.09 percent at 11,027.80 on Friday, its highest close since April 25, as investors swapped volatile technology shares for more dependable blue-chip stocks. The Nasdaq Composite Index (^IXIC - news) rose 29.48 points or 0.78 percent to 3,789.47. Andrew To, director of research at Tai Fook Securities said the Hang Seng could start trade 100-200 points higher but he expected the gains to be brief, citing the market's recent light daily turnover of under HK$10 billion. He added that the release of the U.S. consumer price index (CPI) data on Wednesday may dampen market activity in the first half of the week as investors waited for further clues on interest rate adjustments due on August 22, when the rate-setting Federal Reserve Open Market Committee next meets. Analysts said the market is also expected to keep an eye out for a string of earnings announcements, especially from a number of Growth Enterprise Market (GEM) listed companies.
