Why are we waiting for an OEM to "design in" a large format battery for laptops? What precludes VLNC from designing either a replacement brick or better yet an add-on unit a la Electrofuel. Certainly we can manufacture, repackage and market a large footprint unit that would rest under the laptop case and do so for less than the $500 that Electrofuel is charging. This would at least accomplish getting the battery into the market place thereby adding credibility that VLNC can produce a large format cell and perhaps stimulate OEM's to design in the battery.

Valence Receives Additional Order for Satellite Phone Batteries

August 14, 2000 07:00 AM Eastern Time
HENDERSON, Nev., Aug. 14 /PRNewswire/ -- Valence Technology Inc. VLNC , a leader in the development and commercialization of lithium polymer rechargeable batteries, today announced that Moltech Power Systems has increased the size of its order for Model 25A batteries announced in May 2000.
Moltech placed its original order for these batteries in October 1999 in response to demand from an OEM customer. This order was supplemented by a second order in May 2000. The May 2000 order has now been increased in size by an additional 30% quantity increase.

As previously announced, in order to rapidly ramp up production capacity for this customer, following the first follow-on order, Valence transferred production of the Model 25 cells onto one of its high-speed production lines at its Ireland facility. This move has enabled Valence to effectively respond to the increased industry demand for this footprint.

Lev Dawson, Chairman and CEO of Valence said, "The rapid sell-through of our first two supplies of our satellite phone batteries and the repeat orders from this global blue-chip customer is a clear testament of the quality and customer acceptance of our batteries. Although we will continue to increase our production of this size battery to keep up with increased industry demand, we are making substantial progress in the introduction of a similar footprint of this battery for a series of other applications, including mobile high- speed wireless data transmission and various handheld internet appliances with voice and data capabilities."
