I don't know that Inprise has "beat" Oracle here anymore than they are "teaming up" with IBM. Let's just say they released a Linux product while Oracle continues with its more ambituous effort. Then let's add that Inprise paid IBM to license a product. Yeah, I teamed up with Intel last week: upgraded my CPU.

I have always suspected that Inprise shafted itself with the Oracle license: Oracle was in desperate need of Java technology, now they are competing with Inprise. Let me rephrase that: Oracle will join BEA, iPlanet, Unify and dozens of others who are wiping the Application Server market floor with Inprise. The difference with Oracle is that they are using Inprise ammo to mow down Inprise products.
