We are experiencing a new era brought about by the U.S. consolidating its position as THE world's superpower following the collapse of the Soviet Union and the general adoption of capitalism by many of the former marxist regimes. Even China, although ideologically still Communist, has aggressively embraced free market reforms. We are enjoying the post-Reagan/Bush peace dividend much maligned through the years by the liberal spin machine, and brought about by the defeat of Marxism/Leninism as a viable form of government. What do you think is the role of this on the unprecedented economic growth this country is experiencing? However, it is at this juncture of consolidated military and economic might that we as a society need to define the shape of our country for generations to come, and in so doing PREVENT the decline that you suspect is already taking place. Ensuring that our society remains a true meritocracy will provide the greatest assurance that our country's dominance and way of life will prevail. Of course it is our responsibility to take care of the less fortunate ones left behind. But that can be accomplished without losing focus about the fact that above all, ability and hard work should be rewarded. Previous generations fought in armed conflicts to ensure the continuity of our society. In these times of prosperity our challenge remains the same, namely, to provide a platform for the continued evolution of future generations. Even though our battlefield today may be that of morals and ideas, it is of no less consequence or complexity than many of the quandaries faced by our forebearers. JMHO. Regards, mc2
