NEW YORK, Aug 14 (Reuters) - Shares in Scientific-Atlanta Inc. SFA slid 10 percent on Monday after Gerard Klauer Mattison downgraded the stock in the maker of set-top boxes that link TVs to cable systems.

Scientific-Atlanta was off 9-1/2 to 83-7/8 in mid-afternoon trading. The stock was among the biggest losers in percentage terms on the New York Stock Exchange.

The slide came after Gerard Klauer Mattison analyst Michael Cristinziano cut his rating on the shares to neutral from buy. A spokesman for his office said the downgrade was based in part on the shares reaching the price target of $88.
