G,
I am a radiologist and I agree with all you say. The other factor not discussed is specificity. Mammography is about 85% sensitive but much less specific(about 30%). That means you are performing a large number of biopsies for benign lesions. Even in the best hands only 25-30% of biopsies are positive for cancer and if you want to get that number higher the result is an increase in false negative, you wind up missing cancers. If thermography can reduce the number of benign biopsies by 30-50% without the increase in false positives then it wil be a home run.

Bill, thanks for the time you are spending doing DD on this topic! Thanks too for sharing your information and your opinions! Your posts are very honest, informative and intelligent, something we've been missing here for a few weeks! Good luck in Medical School!!!

As a female, over the age of 40, I must also comment on how many women DO NOT go for a regular mammogram because of how very uncomfortable they are. I am embarrassed to admit that I have only had one, and have not been back thinking I am safe because there is no history of breast cancer in my family. I am not alone. Many of my friends and relatives feel the same way and avoid the procedure. I know, believe me, that is stupid, but I just wanted to state that it is a reality! My OB/GYN gave me the ultimatum on my last visit, so I have an appointment for later this week. I am dreading it, but will grit my teeth this time and hope that just possibly by next year I will have an alternative choice!!

Thanks to everyone and Good Luck!! Pamela
