In 10 GB Ethernet over SONET, its the LAN PHY standard proposed by Cisco vs. the WAN PHY standard proposed by Nortel. Frankly, I don't understand this stuff very well but there is a dispute about standards for 10 GB Ethernet. lightreading.com

Interesting. Thx for the link. Vos states what I was telling Telecomguy - that carriers want to be able to buy interoperable products from multiple vendors based on industry standard protocols, not rely on one single vendor.
