In 10 GB Ethernet over SONET, its the LAN PHY standard proposed by Cisco vs. the WAN PHY standard proposed by Nortel. Frankly, I don't understand this stuff very well but there is a dispute about standards for 10 GB Ethernet.

Interesting. Thx for the link. Vos states what I was telling Telecomguy - that carriers want to be able to buy interoperable products from multiple vendors based on industry standard protocols, not rely on one single vendor.

That and the "geographical differences" reason that Chambers
often mentioned a couple of years ago. (And which of course was totally blown out of the water with the Pirelli acquisition among others...<g>)
