The unabated rate of growth in M3 suggests to me that the fed funds rate hikes to date have had little effect in slowing lending and cooling the economy leaving the feds no choice but continuing raising rates. If Al waits until after the election to act, the US economy will be white hot. I'm guessing 25 BPS on 8/22 and another 25BPS in November....this baby won't turn around until the rate gets to 7%....and if he continues to wait and see, it may take even more tightening above 7% in 2001...of course Al hasn't consulted with me...maybe he is waiting for his new boss, George W to give him the word.....ggggg
