Thats an interesting point you bring up Japan. It does look like they may be in deep trouble again. However if their banks should weaken signifigantly, wouldn't they be forced start to repatriate their 100s of billions in US treasuries to shore up their reserves? This could cause a very ugly situation on US markets, which could only be good news for gold.
