But I think that ORCL has a technology advantage that this thread tends to discount.

I believe their vast array of programmers is a technology advantage and I think most here recognize that. But if you've got the most engineers around building a car engine and you've pissed off all the car manufacturers and other related partners, you're not gonna get too many engines put in the cars no matter how good your engineers are nor no matter how many of them are hard at work.

And as for the raw technology edge, it's important to remember that virtually every report says that Oracle's product isn't as robust as Siebel's. Being behind about two years says more about unrealized potential of the technology edge than realized potential.

Oracle's biggest edge in my opinion is their customer base, not their technology and not their partner base.
