Don't worry JohnG, that's just Vodafone. They are stuck with a legacy GSM network which has been good for them for a couple of years, but Telecom is now installing a CDMA network. In June 2001, people will be able to use CDMA and that will presumably be with a pretty good data rate. Then we'll see whether people prefer GPRS or CDMA.

Meanwhile, spectrum auctions for 3G continue and those will all be CDMA.

Vodafone should be sweating by now. I suppose they'll quickly roll out a CDMA network in their 3G spectrum so they can compete with Telecom [and only a year behind them].

Vodafone also has Globalstar rights in New Zealand, but I suppose they'll do as badly with it in NZ as they are doing in Australia, where they only sell the rotten Ericy and Telit phones [with short battery life].
