SBC Bundles Compaq PCs In New Monthly DSL Plans

SBC Communications, Inc., hopes to stimulate demand for its digital subscriber line
service by offering DSL-equipped personal computers and two years' worth of
service for $60 per month. Considering that the Compaq Presario PC included in the
new DSL packages is valued at about $1,000, that means subscribers will spend
$18 a month for the remainder of the offering, which includes a $99 self-installation
kit and high-speed Internet access that normally sells for $40 a month. Customers
also will have to pay $198 in shipping charges.

SBC said it is making the offer available in its Pacific Bell and Southwestern Bell
territories through the end of August. Similar deals are planned later this year for
SBC's customers in the Nevada Bell, Ameritech, and Southern New England
Telecom regions.

A key feature of the package is that it enables subscribers to set up their DSL
service without assistance from SBC technicians. SBC is encouraging the use of
self-installation kits for new DSL customers by raising the price for sending
technicians to subscribers' homes from $99 to $150.

BUT GBS is no "fundie"

Even hates 'em. And that is what you have to be here to hold long.
Fundies must support the stock and get it away from the breakdown area we are close to. Also the NAZ could help and VZ, but it's the belief in the eps blowing away .08, .09 over the next two qtrs. that will win or lose the stock at 15-16.

Now for those fundies focussed on cash and equivalents.
I think the company INCREASES C/E this next qtr with little use of the revoving credit facility. The Capital equipment facility will get used but little on the revolver, thanks in part to the mgmt selling their shares. I think they did it to PROTECT your long term investment.

JMHO and let me know if you care to see the nos. (PM)
