The console achieved that mark in just under five months, since its original release on March 4. This figure is very impressive, considering that the original PlayStation took 19 months to achieve the same sales figure. It's done well since then, though - along with the announcement concerning PS2's success, SCE also announced that the original PlayStation has shipped 77,350,000 units worldwide.
