So, how long till I:

1. wear my communications device, like I put on my glasses in the morning?
2. can say to it, "Hal, access my E-trade account, and tell me if T, which I shorted at 7, has reached zero yet?"
3. and it filters out the music on the radio, and the kids arguing over a toy in the back seat, and says, (without a pause), "closed at 1 7/8 today".

I'm not sure this whole "net through the cellphone" thing is going to work until the teeny screen and the teeny buttons get replaced by a lot of software. Anyone have any guesses how long?

Although I have never seen the government bother with any meaningful statistics, the movement towards a handsfree environment seems to be consistent with the government's preoccupation with regulation. IMO, the shift in the auto industry towards telematics is clearly giving the feds a green light to require more sophisticated communication systems in cars. Further, I think we will see the press play up the whole brain cancer scare to convince consumers that they should be wearing headsets rather than holding their cell phones next to their head. Bottom line, I think the government is getting ready to tax the bejesus out of the wireless industry with new E911 regulations.
