I remember when Mr X remodeled our kitchen. He did it himself. Had he been expected to wash a dish during this time I think he might have killed someone.

Yesterday we took Ben and Nick to the airport to fly to Baton Rouge alone for the first time in their lives. It's a direct flight, actually directly to New Orleans, takes about 2 1/2 hours, and my sister and father met them at the airport. They handled it just fine, which is what I expected. Ben took care of the tickets and I gave him a check to give to my sister for expenses because they will be there for a week and a half before I drive down there.

Everything in the house has been staying put. That's the most extraordinary thing. Nothing has moved since the last time I saw it, clean dishes and glasses are still in the cupboard, the sink is clean and empty, there is still milk in the milk jug, there are no socks on the floors. I haven't had one actually leave the nest, but I think it would have its consolations.

In response to the poll, I agree that help with the housework is far more important to me than flowers or any other sentimental gesture. And I also agree that the woman was being a bitch.

I had a painting and paperhanging business for 10 years, and it was my experience that the women handled the house being in disarray a lot better than the men did. The decorating project was usually her idea, that may have had something to do with it.
