( BW)(AZ-WHITE-ELECTRONIC)(WEDC) White Electronic Designs Enters New Commercial Display Market: In-Flight Entertainment

Business Editors

PHOENIX--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 15, 2000--White Electronic Designs Corporation (Nasdaq:WEDC) today announced that its Display Division has won a program design, and received an initial $1 million order for its optically enhanced displays for use in commercial and private in-flight aviation entertainment systems.
These displays will be deployed in forward-fit and retro-fit applications in such aircraft as the Boeing 747 and the 737, the Airbus 330 and the Lear and Gulf Stream corporate jet aircraft. White's patent-pending Super Bright Low Reflectance (SBLR(TM)) technology, which provides optimal image quality while eliminating glare, was a key factor in the program win. The order is deliverable in FY 2001.
Hamid Shokrgozar, President and CEO of White Electronic Designs, commented, "This program win is an important entry for White into the commercial display market. James Ramsey, writing in the February 2000 issue of Avionics Magazine, noted that the in-flight entertainment market was, '...estimated at $1.7 Billion in 1999...' Our SBLR(TM) technology, has generated enthusiastic interest in this industry due to our display's superior image quality in conditions with direct sunlight and strong glare." Shokrgozar continued, "Our displays are used not only in avionics and defense applications, but are now being sought after in ever widening commercial markets."
White Electronic Designs Corporation supplies the wired and wireless communications industry with niche semiconductor products that support network systems, switches, base stations, and other hardware platforms.
